e-Studies

Duke TIP’s e-Studies Program is an exciting new distance-learning opportunity for students in grades 8-12. Students connect with other gifted students and with a TIP instructor as they pursue advanced high-school and college-level coursework on the Internet.

E-Studies courses are delivered using Blackboard, a course management system used in university, high-school, and corporate settings all over the world. Students in the e-Studies Program read course materials, post completed assignments, and interact with their peers and their instructor through online discussions, virtual lectures, and real-time collaborations. This opportunity to engage with other gifted students with similar academic interests and with an experienced teacher who is both knowledgeable and passionate about the subject makes Duke TIP’s e-Studies Program a unique learning experience.

Most of the interactions in an e-Studies course are asynchronous, meaning that students do not have to be online at a particular time in order to participate. E-Studies courses thus allow students to benefit from a high level of interaction, while also offering flexibility not found in most face-to-face classes.
