About the Course: Students will be introduced to the major topics in the field of psychology. Students will become familiar with the major research studies and famous theorists that have informed the modern discipline. The course will stress a scientifically based approach to human behavior and students will evaluate the competing theoretical perspectives used to explain human behavior. Topics will include the biological basis of behavior, learning and memory, sensation and perception, intelligence and testing, motivation and emotion, psychological disorders and therapy, social psychology and personality. This course aims to improve students’ understanding and appreciation of experimental design, human nature, and themselves.
About the Instructors: David and Lindy Norman both hold undergraduate and M.A.T. degrees from Duke University. A long-time social studies teacher, David is an adjunct history professor with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in US History and he teaches AP Psychology. For 8 years Lindy has taught social studies to students in grades 6-12. She also taught AP Psychology before moving to a mentor position for beginning teachers.
