International Talent Search

To register Duke TIP International students must:

Register independently (at a local site) to take the SAT or ACT.  Check with your school to obtain a registration packet or register online at:

Students must be at least 13 years of age to apply online.

Upon receiving their official student score report (4-5 weeks after testing), students need to make a photocopy of the report and mail along with the International Talent Search application and a $45 USD check (drawn on a U.S. bank) made payable to Duke University.

The Talent Identification Program at Duke University (Duke TIP) encourages 7th and 8th grade students who live outside the United States to join the Duke TIP family to tap into our array of resources and valuable information about educational opportunities.

Duke TIP International Talent Search participants receive the benefits listed below.

Testing Experience

Pencil and bubble sheet The knowledge and experience of taking an above-level test like the SAT or ACT is the primary benefit of the Talent Search. Students have the opportunity to build their test-taking skills and learn more about their academic abilities.

Certificate of Achievement

Certificate of Merit All participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement

Educational Resource Handbook

Educational Resource Handbook The Educational Resource Handbook contains sections for parents and students and provides:

  • guidance for above-level test taking
  • strategies for working with schools
  • information about preparing for college
  • academic resources
  • educational options for gifted students

Educational Opportunity Guide

Educational Opportunity Guide Access to The Educational Opportunity Guide, an online publication, that lists:

  • state directors of gifted education
  • state associations of the gifted
  • academic competitions
  • detailed information about programs for academically talented students

Results Summary

The score report sent to 7th Grade Talent Search participants from the appropriate testing organization (College Board or ACT) ) allows families to compare their child’s scores with all students who tested, including college-bound high school students (for the SAT and ACT). In order to get a more accurate picture of the level of achievement of 7th Grade Talent Search participants, Duke TIP compiles a Talent Search Results Summary. Scores on above-level tests can be used to help parents and schools evaluate a child’s current curriculum and develop an education plan that is commensurate with the child’s abilities. For more information on see the Interpreting SAT and ACT Scores page.
