Overview
What's a TIP Tester?
A TIP Tester is a 4th - 12th grade student who loves learning and who demonstrates independence, resourcefulness, and commitment. If you have these qualities, you might become a TIP Tester!
What do TIP Testers do?
TIP Testers are gifted students who are willing to pursue challenging independent study lessons on the computer during free time. The student can ask a teacher or a parent to be a mentor
, but much of the time, the student is working alone.
If you are selected to become a TIP Tester, you will
- test drive new lessons from the Duke TIP Independent Learning program before they are released,
- explore rigorous academic activities on the computer,
- share your assignment work with Duke TIP, and
- tell us what you think.
Duke TIP will also take your feedback through online surveys and improve the lessons before they are released to other gifted students. Learn more about Independent Learning courses already offered by visiting the sidebar to your right.
What are the benefits of participation?
- Free access to the latest Independent Learning products using the web-based course management system, Blackboard.
- Free copies of textbooks.
- A certificate of participation honoring your commitment to the TIP Testers program.
- A free copy of the course when it is published.
- The chance to have your work featured as "model student work" in the final version of the course.
What are expectations for students in the program?
Expectations are described on the following page. Note also that TIP Testers agree to submit student assignments according to set deadlines and complete evaluations in exchange for these benefits.
