Fees and Payments
- Application fee: A nonrefundable application fee of $25 is required with every application. This fee is not applied to program fees.
- Enrollment deposit: Within two weeks of placement notification, students must pay a $300 nonrefundable enrollment deposit to secure a place in the program. This deposit is applied to the program fee. If you receive financial aid, you may qualify for a reduced deposit amount; your acceptance email will provide details.
- Full payment: The program fee balance, less any financial aid awards and deposit, must be received by March 5 (eighth, ninth, and tenth graders) or April 30 (seventh graders), or the student may be dropped from the course.
- Payment method: Fees and deposits may be paid by check, credit card, or money order. Paying by check authorizes Duke University to make a one-time electronic fund transfer from your account. These funds may be withdrawn from your account as soon as the date of receipt. Once the electronic transfer is made, your canceled check will be destroyed. Returned checks will result in a $25 processing charge.
- Transfer fee: Students who request a course, site, or term change after being placed will be charged a $25 transfer fee. Transfer fees are nonrefundable.
Financial Aid
- Duke TIP offers limited need-based financial aid for all Summer Studies programs. Financial aid funds are limited and requests for aid always exceed available resources, so be sure to apply early. Additional information about financial aid.
Refund Policy
- The application fee is nonrefundable.
- The enrollment deposit will not be refunded once course placement is accepted.
- If a student withdraws from the program, program fees paid, less the enrollment deposit, will be refunded if Duke TIP is notified by March 5 (for eighth, ninth, and tenth graders) or April 30 (for seventh graders).
- If a student withdraws between the withdrawal deadline and the start of the program, Duke TIP will refund 50 percent of the program fees paid.
- After the program begins, a student who withdraws due to illness that requires hospitalization or due to the death of a mother, father, guardian, or sibling will receive a prorated refund of up to 50 percent of program fees paid. Refunds are not granted for any other reason after the program begins.
- Refunds are not granted it a student is dismissed from the program.
