Duke TIP

Rules and Regulations

Honor Code and Behavior

As a Duke University TIP student, and thus a guest of Duke University, you are expected to adhere to high standards of conduct both on and off campus and to accept personal responsibility for your conduct. You are responsible for your behavior: maintaining honesty, truthfulness, fairness, civility, and concern for others inside and outside the classroom. The hotel, dining hall, classrooms, other facilities, and all equipment should be used respectfully and kept clean at all times. You will be charged for any damage to campus buildings, equipment, or hotel property caused by your conduct. Inappropriate behavior or violation of Scholar Weekend rules (presented here and by the staff during the weekend) will result in disciplinary action and possible dismissal from the program.

Overall Program Expectations

  • All students will respect and follow the direction of residential counselors, teaching assistants, instructors, and other supervisors.
  • There can be no food or drink in Duke University classrooms.
  • Students will be with the class group at all times; students may not independently explore the campus.
  • When at meal sites and on breaks, students are asked to remain in the area until it is time for class to resume. Students are asked to be mindful of the traffic on Duke's campus.
  •  Students are asked to be quiet in the classroom buildings, halls, and restrooms. There are other Duke groups that meet in the building, and many professors come in to work in their offices during the day and evening hours.
  • When in the hotel, students will remain in the designated areas. Students will be in their rooms by 10:30 p.m. and be in their beds with the lights out at 11 p.m.
