About the Authors

VVirginia S. Wilson is the chairperson of the Department of Humanities at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. She received both B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Duke University. In, 2000, the National Council for Social Studies honored her as the National Secondary Social Studies Teacher of the Year, and she has received National Board Certification in Adolescent-Young Adult Social Studies. In addition to this manual, she is the co-author of TIP's AP United States history and AP European history manuals. Dr. Wilson serves as a national College Board consultant, and she is currently an adjunct associate professor in the Education program and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the M.A.T. program at Duke.

James A. Litle is an instructor of history and social sciences at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. In addition to this manual, Mr. Litle is co-author of TIP's AP United States history and European history manuals. He is a national consultant to the College Board; is an AP reader; and in the past, he served as an instructor for TIP's summer programs. Mr. Litle earned his Bachelor and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees at Duke University.
