To Post a Message
Address it to dglnetwork@duke.edu. The message will be automatically sent to each person on the list by the Majordomo mailing list server.

Important Note about Replying to a Posting
By default replies go to the sender of the message only, not the entire listserv group. If you want everyone to see your reply, use the "reply to all" command in your e-mail program or address it to dglnetwork@duke.edu.

Posting Guidelines
If you wish to post messages to the DGLNETWORK, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Post only messages with subject matter that relates directly to articles in the Duke Gifted Letter or to topics pertaining to the education, social-emotional development, and parenting of gifted children.
  2. Include a descriptive subject line.
  3. Include your name (first and last) and location (city or county and state) in each message you send to the list, so people will know who you are and where you're from.
  4. Send messages in plain text only. Turn OFF html and rich text formatting and turn ON word wrap in your e-mail program setup (if necessary). Messages formatted in html are more than twice as long as text messages and enable the spread of viruses. Messages without word wrap are difficult to read. For more information, including how to turn off html formatting in most common e-mail programs, see www.expita.com/nomime.html.
  5. Do not send attachments, such as image files, Word documents, PDF files, and vCards. Attachments are often very large and can inconvenience listserv members with slow Internet connections and limited space in their e-mail inbox. They are also potential virus carriers.
  6. Follow the standard rules of Netiquette, such as:
    • When quoting from a previous message, do not let your e-mail software automatically quote the entire body of the message you are replying to. Take the time to edit the quotations down to the minimum that is applicable to your reply, so others will not have to read the entire message more than once.
    • Warn users about long messages at the top of the message or provide a reference or link to the source document.
    • If you cannot monitor your e-mail account for any length of time or if you activate an auto-response message for your account (for example, if you go on vacation), unsubscribe from the listserv.
    • Be careful not to send commands (such as subscribe or unsubscribe to dglnetwork@duke.edu). Each message you send here will be received by all subscribers to the listserv. Commands should go only to majordomo@duke.edu.
    • Save your subscription confirmation letter for future reference.
    • Do not post inflammatory messages or use derogatory or abusive language. Remember that these discussions are public and meant for constructive exchanges.
