State Definitions of Gifted—Arkansas
State definition: Gifted and Talented: Gifted and Talented children and youth are those of high potential or ability, whose learning characteristics and educational needs require qualitatively differentiated educational experiences and/or services. Possession of these talents and gifts, or the potential for their development, will be evidenced through an interaction of above average intellectual ability, task commitment and/or motivation, and creative ability. (Arkansas Code. Annotated §§6-42-101 through 6-42-109)
- A state mandate with funding for identification and programming exists in gifted education. There is a state department of education policy in regards to gifted education. (Arkansas Code annotated 6-42-101 through 6-42-109 and 6-20-312 and 6-20-317.
- Children can be identified for services at any time throughout their public school experience.
