State Definitions of Gifted—Mississippi
State definition: "Gifted children" shall mean children who are found to have an exceptionally high degree of intellect, and/or academic, creative or artistic ability. (Mississippi Code SEC. 37-23-175)
- A state mandate with funding for identification and programming exists in gifted education. (Sections 37-23-171 through 37-23-181 of the Mississippi Gifted Education Act of 1989).
- Identification begins in second grade.
