DEUTSCHE SCHÜLERAKADEMIE

Deutsche SchülerAkademie was begun in 1988 by Bildung und Begabung, and the program has since grown into an outstanding opportunity for academically talented students to immerse themselves in German language, culture, and education. The program encourages students to reach their academic potential through interdisciplinary thinking, research techniques, and independent learning. The German Scholar Exchange begins with a week at the home of a German student who has been admitted to the same academy. These two students will then travel together to begin the academic portion of the program. Instruction allows for immersion in course content through classroom activities, presentations, research, and related literature. Participants must be fluent in German as all courses are taught exclusively in German. In addition to the demanding university-level classroom experience, the academy also features a variety of residential activities including sports, music, and off-campus excursions. All participants are housed in school residence halls and supervised by instructional and residential staff members.

Prerequisite: Students must have completed at least three years of high school German, with fluency. Language skills will be evaluated by Bildung und Begabung staff prior to admittance.

An overview of the courses offered during the 2008 academy can be found at: www.deutsche-schuelerakademie.de.
