Enrollment Criteria

Duke TIP 7th Grade Talent Search eligibility is based on location, year in school, and past performance on standardized testing. Students meeting the following three eligibility criteria may apply in September of their seventh grade year:

  • Reside in or attend school, public, private or home school, within Duke TIP's 16-state region: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas;
  • Are in the 7th grade (or have skipped the 7th grade during the current school year); and
  • Have scored in the 95th% or higher on the national norms of a grade-level standardized achievement, aptitude, mental ability, or an approved state criterion-referenced test. Either of the two most recent testings may be used and student need only qualify in one subtest.

Qualifying test scores now available for: Mississippi Curriculum Test (MCT) and Mississippi Curriculum Test, 2nd Edition (MCT2), Oklahoma Core Curriculum Tests (OCCT), South Carolina Palmetto Achievement Challenge Test (PACT), and Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), not available at the time of printing for the 2008-2009 Coordinator's Guide.
