Note to 6th Graders

All students will receive the Navigator newsletter, Duke Gifted Letter (DGL), Writing Contest information, and EXPLORE test registration materials through their sixth grade year.

4th/5th Grade Talent Search Calendar of Events

2008
January Schools receive initial 4th/5th Grade Talent Search materials. Applications are distributed to qualified fourth and fifth graders. Enrollment begins. Web registration is open and paper applications are accepted.
March 1

FINAL postmark deadline for submitting paper applications.
Applications received after the postmark date may or may not be processed. Duke TIP makes every effort to include all students wishing to enroll in the 4th/5th Grade Talent Search. If an application is received after the deadline and is processed, it is possible that the student’s name will not be included on the report sent to the school for recognition. Reports are mailed to the schools in a timely manner to allow the school adequate time for recognition preparation.

March 17 FINAL deadline for Web registration.
May Merit Pack is mailed to students. This includes a Certificate of Achievement, Navigator newsletter (with Duke Gifted Letter insert), and Staying on Course.
July Academic 411 is mailed to first-year enrollees.
September Fall Navigator newsletter with Duke Gifted Letter insert is mailed to students.
October EXPLORE testing registration begins.
December Writing Contest information mailed to all current participants enrolled in the 4th/5th Grade Talent Search.
2009
January

EXPLORE testing (dates and sites are set by ACT). To be eligible for testing, a student must be enrolled in the 4th/5th Grade Talent Search.

February EXPLORE testing (dates and sites are set by ACT). To be eligible for testing, a student must be enrolled in the 4th/5th Grade Talent Search.
April Spring Navigator newsletter with Duke Gifted Letter insert is mailed to students.
May/June Recognition Ceremony for students scoring in the 99th percentile and above on the composite section of the EXPLORE test.
